December can feel like one long to-do list.
A few days in the mountains might be the break you need. Come for a long weekend or stay for a full week.
Ski, start a snowball fight or lace up your skates at the rink by the river. When evening falls, return to your apartment to eat, unwind and swap stories about the day.
Trysil's official opening day is 4 December 2026.
Be there when the lifts turn for the first time, feel your skis come back to life after a summer in storage, and carve the first turns of the season – perhaps before everyone else has even started thinking about snow.
Prefer cross-country skiing? Trysilfjellet Arena has freshly groomed trails close by. From mid-December, floodlit evening skiing lets you keep going long after sunset.
At Trysilfjell, the lift and gondola are just outside your door. Step out in your ski boots, breathe in the cold morning air and take your first run as the mountain wakes.
Modern, fully equipped self-catering apartments
We have modern, fully equipped apartments in a range of sizes, from compact spaces for two to large apartments where a group of friends or an extended family can gather around one table.
At Trysil Alpine Lodge, ski clothes and boots dry in the ski storage while you light the candles, cook dinner and deal the cards. Or keep the evening going at one of Trysil's many restaurants, the cinema or the bowling alley in town.
Trysilfjellet links four ski areas, so no two ski days need to be the same.
New to skiing? Build confidence on wide, gentle slopes or book a lesson with one of the ski school instructors. Looking for burning thighs and butterflies? Head for Høgegga and its long, steep runs. Snow Park and Fun Ride are built for play, with jumps, rollers and banked turns for everything from getting a little air for the first time to landing bigger tricks.
There's no rule that says you have to ski every day. Let a team of huskies pull you through the forest or take the children skating by the river. For speed without skis, Norway's longest toboggan run in Ljørdalen is worth the trip.
Getting to Trysil
Trysil is around a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Oslo, about two hours from Oslo Airport and only 40 minutes from Scandinavian Mountains Airport, which has routes from several European cities.
The Trysil Express runs daily mountain services throughout the winter. Whether you travel from Stockholm or Oslo, or fly in from London, Amsterdam or Copenhagen, the journey can feel like the start of the holiday rather than time spent getting there.
The windows glow warmly, the Advent star hangs in its place and presents wait under the tree, just as they would at home. More and more visitors choose to spend the whole of Christmas in Trysil.
Others arrive for the days between Christmas and New Year, ski through the bright winter hours and stay until fireworks light the sky above the mountain on New Year's Eve.
